I was born in hot sunny tropical Malaysia and believe it or not we can grow tulips there!
Well, there is only one place where tulips can be grown and it is in a hill resort called Maxwell Hill (post colonial name is Bukit Larut). Anyway, it is located in a small little town called Taiping about 300 km north of Kuala Lumpur , the capital city.

The tulip farm is located at Cendana Bungalow and to get there you can either use your legs to bring you there and the walk will take less than 3 hours. If that is too daunting then you can take a Government 4 wheel drive that takes 25 minutes. It is quite a harrowing ride due to the sharp turns so if you have wigs on , hang on to them tightly!
The tulips are germinated in an air conditioned room, and once it has matured it will be brought out to the greenhouse for them to bloom . This takes about 2 to 3 months .
The tulips are available during Dec-Feb and in July. There you are, tulips in Malaysia and the first of its kind.

Hi there, I am vernice.I’m interested of plant a tulip at home, but i have a question, do I able to do it in normal hot weather in selangor??somemore i’m staying in a condo. tulip need to be taking care under air condition or cold weather??

Tulip bulbs need about 3 months in a temperature between 5 to 10 degrees C in order to flower the next time.
Your fridge could be around 0 to 7 degrees, so if you are willing to put your tulips bulbs 3 to 4 months in your fridge, you could be able to grow tulips in hot selangor.
Main thing is you need to be persistent
Most tulips will “shoot” out of their bulb once you take them out of the fridge…
A way to fragile stem to support the flower, so keep them in the aircon as much as possible.
