Enjoy the first picture of this year’s Keukenhof tulips: an immense tulip field of early flowering Greigii Tulips (ideal for your rock garden) and many purple crocus flowers.

 

The first to see the Keukenhof tulips was the Queen of the Netherlands opening the new fresh tulips season from March 19 till May 21.

This year the Keukenhof Lisse garden plays tribute to the Dutch explorer Hudson who set foot in America in Manhattan 400 years ago.

 

The 2009 "America in Flowers" theme showcases a tulip flowers mosaic of the Statue of Liberty in the Keukenhof Garden, incorporating more than 50,000 flower bulbs.

 

Keukenhof 2009 has designed an American-themed route starting with:

 

  • the Hudson River (named at Dutch explorer Hudson from the East Indian Company) at the park’s entrance
     
  • a swaying path of blue grape flowers illustrating the two streams of New York
     
  • Manhattan in flowers
     
  • a walk of fame pictures e.g. of former First Lady Laura Bush
     
  • recognizable American locations such as Brooklyn, Harlem, and Wall Street

 

Apart from some seven million Keukenhof tulips, the 32-hectare historic park also grew hyacinths, daffodils and all other spring bulbs. Of course you can order tulips or just buy fresh tulips when you visit Keukenhof.
