Visit Keukenhof 2008

I saw an advertisement about visiting the tulip gardens in Keukenhof, and I just need to tell you that Keukenhof would be for next year 2008 only! So if you are planning to visit The Netherlands next year, make sure you spend one day in Keukenhof Gardens: you will never ever get another chance to see so many tulip and other spring flower bulbs in 1 garden!
Keukenhof started of after the second world war by the association of Tulip flower growers of Holland, to show their tulip flowers, to sell tulip flowers and to exchange the bulbs.
It then evolved to 80 acres of land with about 6 million bulbs planted each year attracting about 10 million visitors. You will see approximately thousand varieties of Tulips and a lot of other spring flower bulbs like Hyacinths.
Keukenhof is quite near to Amsterdam and if you are lucky you can find me there, as I love to visit it each year just to smell the perfume of the Hyacinth fields

Tulips in Malaysia

I was born in hot sunny tropical Malaysia and believe it or not we can grow tulips there!
Well, there is only one place where tulips can be grown and it is in a hill resort called Maxwell Hill (post colonial name is Bukit Larut). Anyway, it is located in a small little town called Taiping about 300 km north of Kuala Lumpur , the capital city.

The tulip farm is located at Cendana Bungalow and to get there you can either use your legs to bring you there and the walk will take less than 3 hours. If that is too daunting then you can take a Government 4 wheel drive that takes 25 minutes. It is quite a harrowing ride due to the sharp turns so if you have wigs on , hang on to them tightly!
The tulips are germinated in an air conditioned room, and once it has matured it will be brought out to the greenhouse for them to bloom . This takes about 2 to 3 months .
The tulips are available during Dec-Feb and in July. There you are, tulips in Malaysia and the first of its kind.
