On a rainy day, tulips flowers close their colourful petals, so stamen and pistil inside the tulip flower stay dry.
It’s not that a tulip can take a walk to look for shelter
Yet flowers are much more than seemingly motionless creatures!

Tulip fields near Keukenhof: millions of tulips flowering in all kinds of colors.
A great way to enjoy the Netherlands and to see many spring bulb flowers apart from visiting Keukenhof, is following a biking tour in the countryside around Keukenhof.
Or you can combine both: a biking tour in the tulip fields and a visit to Keukenhof.
You can take the Eurostar train to Leiden, which in itself is a lovely old Dutch city dating back to the 17th century. A 20 km biking tour north will bring you through the tulip fields and ends at Keukenhof.
Do remember that Keukenhof will close its gates the 21st of May, so hurry if you want to visit the tulip garden this year.
If you are not in a hurry – and that’s the way it should to live a long and healthy life – flat Holland is the ideal place for biking trips, knowing that some of their biking lanes are so wide, they can easily accommodate a car.
Especially now when the tulip fields are in full bloom and the weather in May is not too hot, biking in the Netherlands is a cheap and good way to relax in the middle of the flowers.
