what do snails eatWell, according to this snail picture: the land snails or garden snails that have traveled to my garden seems to eat…. a lot!

If you want to catch snails, it is good to know what they eat or rather what they drink: they seem to love draft beer. Go figure these snails are picky: they don’t like the so called "table beer" they sell here: it has an artificial sweetener in it and only 1.5% of alcohol.

So if you want to catch a snail: you need to put real beer in a pot, sit and wait :-)

Just got an invitation that my niece overseas is going to be married next September :-) Congrats! So let me just jot down my 2 cents on how to choose wedding flowers and wedding florists:

  • first ask your wedding planner or host if they have already flowers included or not!
  • remember that some flowers are seasonal: they are much more expensive when they are not in season
  • ask your local florist first: as you know them and they will make a good impression
  • the closer your wedding florist lives nearby, the more fresh your flowers after delivery and the less you should pay for delivery
  • some people do it as a hobby: check prices first: they can be much cheaper but some aren’t
  • first yo choose your wedding theme, wedding dress and table linen, only then you choose your wedding flowers
  • make a wedding flowers list:
    • brides bouquet
    • bridesmaid’s bouquets
    • corsages for mothers, grandmothers and other special women
    • similar: boutonnieres for the groom, groomsmen and fathers of the bride and groom
    • wedding flowers for church and or reception

Wishing you all a happy life ever after and remember: if you spend all your money at once, you will be broke which is not a good idea as babies need milk, and rumour goes there is one on the way :-)

The best time to plant tulips is during late fall before the first frost arrives. Important is that the bulbs don’t freeze nor get burned because of being planted way too early and not deep enough in a hot climate. So all depends on your climate. Do ask your local flower shop for advice and read the florist’s recommendations before planting their tulip hybrids.

 

Obviously, when the soil freezes, you made it yourself way too hard to still plant tulips…

Plant tulips whenever you can get your hands on tulip bulbs and you have time to spare. Make sure during summertime to give them lots of water, and if you plant them in the wintertime make sure they stay in raised beds so they don’t get too wet nor too cold.

 

Other than that, we do recommend to plant your tulip bulbs during fall, October and November (thanks to global warming) works fine for our tulip bulbs.

 

How far, deep and wide do you plant tulip bulbs? You plant them like you want them :-) You can even plant one of top of the other, something we do for the fun of it: just dig a hole and fill it with a layer or 2 of early, mid and
late tulip bulb varieties. As such you will have 1 huge blooming cluster of tulips all spring through.

 

Placing tulip bulbs 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) apart gives a sparse look. Plant your tulip bulbs 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) deep: the deepest when you expect a lot of summer sun or a lot of winter frost. Give the bulbs enough space between each other so they have the best chance of surviving. And make their life easier by planting the tulip bulbs so the flower part is facing already towards the sun.
