Enjoy more pictures of Keukenhof Lisse in the Netherlands: the ultimate place for tulip fanatics and spring flower lovers.

For 2009 Keukenhof Lisse opens its gardens from March 19 (Queen Beatrix opened the park last week) until May 21. What makes this year so special is the 60th anniversary of the Keukenhof tulip garden.

Pictures of tulips at Keukenhof are the most photographed tulips in the world. Once you go there, just make sure to empty the memory of your camera first!

The amount of little yet different gardens is enormous: you will find different flower arrangements around every corner comprised of different spring flower bulbs.

You can make a day trip to Keukenhof from many parts of the Netherlands – including Amsterdam – and Belgium, but Keukenhof is closest to the small town of Lisse.

If possible, hire a car while you’re on a trip to Keukenhof, as there are endless other vast fields of tulips flowering in the areas nearby.

Tickets to Keukenhof Lisse this year cost €13.50 and if you have your picnic there, you can easily spend your whole day admiring the spring flowers.

Spring Garden Tulip

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands baptized the new Spring Garden tulips and opened the 60th edition of the international flower exhibition Keukenhof on March 19.

Spring Garden is a new tulip variety with red petals and a yellow core.

The above picture of tulips doesn’t give me any reason why I should buy Spring Garden tulips. Although it’s a new variety, for an opening of the new tulips season, I would have loved to see some more rare new tulips like these purple tulips:

Hyacinth Garden, Spring "Open Gardens"Belgium

Putting hyacinth bulbs in strict rows is not really my beloved arrangement of hyacinths. Yet if you are walking nearby a hyacinth garden as the one in the picture above, you will get overwhelmed by the hyacinth fragrance. I just love the hyacinth perfume filling the air just a few days before spring.

You can visit hyacinth gardens and other spring bulb gardens in Belgium for free, just ask for "Open Gardens" (Open Tuinen in Dutch, and it beats Keukenhof Tulip Garden: the amazing tulip paradise garden in The Netherlands)
