freezing

This is how freezing cold it was this morning when I woke up.

I looked through the window and through my amazement, there was no gray smoke coming out of the chimney of my old neighbour of about 90. She lives all alone and had her heating repaired last month.

So I quickly jumped into my warm winter clothes to go over and ring her bell.

No answer!

… Until 15 minutes later she opened the door…

She snuggled herself warm in bed because that night her new heating system broke down! So I took her to my house and managed to phone her daughter to pick up her mom and get a new repairman in.

I was always wondering how people could freeze to death during freezing cold winters… Now I have a better clue.

Luckily we have central heating, a few electrical heaters, an old petrol fire and a romantic wood stove to make sure we can survive yet another freezing winter day :-)

freezing cold

It was freezing cold this morning: minus 12 degrees Celsius (or 10 Fahrenheit)! And no, we don’t live in Siberia!

I put on my cold gear this morning and went for a cool winter walk. Just to be reminded that faux fur jackets is no real fur clothing… Except for my hands covered with real snow gloves, my body was getting colder by the minute.

But I just love to breath in the really fresh air and admiring the ice that started to appear on my thick woolen shawl. It has been ages since I felt this way in my own country. It’s easy to feel this way if you visit places like Antarctica though…

I do remember cold winters like this in Februari, but never ever have I felt so cold in January. It must be all the ice that’s falling down from the North Pole :-)

Anyway, I had a nice early morning stroll! We woke up the kids a bit more early so they could start rolling snowmen before putting on their best snow gear and going to school, oh yes, on foot :-)

The cold experience is priceless and makes you remember you are living on a living planet earth in stead of in a climatized cubicle that seems to exist completely isolated from the rest…

Wooden stove is burning, hot coffee is percolating, enjoying a romantic winter day indoors with freezing cold weather outdoors.
