Allium Flower

Better known as flowers of the onion. Ok, if you take the onion you find in your kitchen and put it in the ground, it will give you a big yet green-white flower.
Allium Giganteum

From all the onion or allium flowers, I prefer Allium Giganteum. It’s the highest of all alliums: the flower can stand 1.5m or 5 feet above ground!
Allium Giganteum is also the latest flowering bulb of all spring flower bulbs. Normally it starts blooming in July, and just before the flowers open (see Allium Giganteum picture above) they are already very decorative.

Lily of the valley flowers

Do you enjoy lily of the valley flowers in your garden?
I hope you do because they are so easy to grow: "plant once and forget about it…" In my garden they are growing on a "forgotten" shady spot next to a wall and underneath some bushes.
But what the above picture doesn’t show is the lily of the valley fragrance I love oh so much!
Once you have an abundance of lilies of the valley, cutting them and putting them in a small vase really lighten ups your house. I have been doing this since I was a little child and I keep on doing this year after year.
Just know that this plant is poisonous, so make sure nobody drinks the water from your lily of the valley flowers vase.

What is growing in your garden?

A lot is growing in mine

And the 10th of May has passed so we have been sowing seeds from plants that can freeze like beans, tomatoes, sweet peppers and zucchini.
I always take the seeds from the beans that were on my plants of last year: what grew last year, should be able to grow this year as well: why spend money on selected seed brands when you can do your own seed selection yourself. It’s quite easy: what survives you harvest, and you want your next harvest to survive as well, so… your seeds should be the best adapted to your soil.
Of course this only works when your plants made it healthy throughout the season. It’s not working well when you take seeds from sick plants.
And with temperatures around 28C today, who thinks about freezing in the first place. Waiting until the 10th of may is definitely something from the past…
Seems global warming has kind of ruined our climate and brought summer one to 2 months earlier than usual. Having my back totally sunburned is just a reminder how in May I never bothered about getting too much sun either.
Seems I need to adapt to this new hot earth…
