Mid summer feast

Only 10 days to go and we have mid summer feast at the 15th of August. In the part of the world where I live, this day is officially called "mothers day". Must have been a way of the Christians to rule
out the pageant feast of mid summer and replace it with something more Christian: oh yes, it’s the feast of Virgin mother Mary.
What I love the most is that around this time the potatoes where harvested at my parents place: all the dry leaves and plants had to be burned and the new potatoes were thrown into the big fire as well. Kind of primitive barbeque with delicious potatoes at the end of the evening. Nothing beats fresh potatoes straight out of an open fire!

Did you sow your annuals already?

Summer time is not only a time to relax, but also during cool mornings, it’s the ideal weather to do some extra work in the garden I find.
Summer time is also the perfect time to sow the hardy annuals such as lupines. I love lupines as they come in all colours and: once you have them, it is so easy to collect their seeds and have an endless supply of new seeds.
You can also sow some biennials, such as forget-me-nots.
